The Ironworks involves the transformation of a beautiful Grade 2 Listed blast furnace in Tondu, South Wales, into a destination hospitality venue with café, bar & restaurant and six hotel guest rooms. The design, set across four floors, has been conceived as a slice through the culture of the industrial revolution.
On the ground floor, we have an outdoor dining terrace, container food kiosk, customer toilets and commercial kitchen. At this level, the design is at its most elemental and industrial.
At first floor level, we have a restaurant and bar; this draws inspiration from the clerks offices of the time, with wood panelling and functional yet considered fixtures.
On the second and third floors, we have a series of guest rooms, providing a more opulent take on the Victorian era. With a mix of rooms types, from family rooms with dedicated kids mezzanine levels (with their own interconnecting ‘tunnels’) to altogether more grown up suites on the upper floor.
