At Faber, we’re pretty good at sharing the amazing work we do through our portfolio pages. But we thought it was high time we allowed you a peek at our inner workings to take a look at the team responsible for making the magic happen…Here we find out who everyone is and what they do at Faber, but perhaps more importantly we’ve thrown in ten quickfire questions to discover what really makes them tick!
Like many of Faber’s team, Jenni started her career here as a placement student in 2008 and returned after graduating to become ‘the first employee’ (as described by founder Tony Matters). After four years with Faber and a seven-year stint overseas, Jenni is back in Brum and has loyally returned to Faber.
Quirky and beautifully detailed hospitality projects are Jenni’s passion. And like a moth to a flame, she can’t get enough of spaces that stem from an inspired narrative layered with an interesting layout and depth of finishes.
At the weekend, Jenni loves to fantasize about how she'll design her dream home (which hasn’t quite found her yet), and also spends a lot of time keeping her inquisitive toddler entertained!
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Adaptable, busy, and a little sarcastic.
What's your greatest achievement?
Probably relocating quite early on in my career and embracing the challenges (both professional and personal) that came with such a change.
What made you want to become an interior designer?
I knew around the time of my GCSEs that I wanted to work in the creative industry. But by year two of my degree in Interior Architecture, I was unsure I'd chosen the right path…Working in industry with Faber for my third year gave me a real understanding of not only the conceptual side of design but the practical and logical side as well (which I'd maybe struggled with at university). It’s over a decade later and I’ve never looked back. I still enjoy creating concepts as much as rationalizing a layout—we’re more than just cushions fluffers, I promise!
What's your favourite Faber project?
Having returned to Faber after so many years away, it’s really fantastic to see how the company has changed and the design style has evolved. I think the attention to detail and depth of finishes at the George Hotel create a beautiful design…
What's your feel-good song?
Raspberry Beret by Prince—an oldie but a goodie!
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Having lived in the Middle East, I was extremely lucky to have had the resource to travel frequently and experience some fantastic places. Somewhere I'd like to explore more of is Asia as there’s so much to see and so many different landscapes and cultures there.
How would you describe your perfect weekend?
Probably a cheeky trip to somewhere in Europe—drinking Aperol Spritz, enjoying the sun, and exploring a new city.
What are you most afraid of?
Outdoor heights. My husband did a bungee jump while in New Zealand and kept saying how much I was missing out…I think not!
Pet hates?
Fussy eaters…just try it, you might even like it!
What three items could you not live without?
Warm clothes, chocolate, and my bed!
