Interior design and branding for a new dessert diner concept
‘All you need is ice cream’...Creating a fifties-flavoured experience at Coombe Abbey dessert diner, The Sundae Club.
When No Ordinary Hospitality appointed us to help with the transformation of the food and beverage offerings at Coombe Abbey Park, we couldn’t wait to have fun with this exciting part of the brief: a fifties-inspired dessert diner!
Located in the visitor’s centre, The Sundae Club offers waffles, crepes, and an ice cream selection that’s described as ’the colour of the rainbow’. Attracting park visitors and hotel guests alike, the venue needed to provide a family-friendly, accessible, and easy-to-clean seating area. Similarly, packaging needed to be practical for both eat-in and takeaway choices, while showcasing its mouthwatering contents and letting people know where it was purchased.
We decided on a retro cobalt blue and dusty pink colour scheme for The Sundae Club. A classic fifties font is used for both the logo and the many quotes (which play on an ice cream theme) that are dotted around the venue and form a distinct part of the overall look.
The Sundae Club’s ice cream counter, neon light signage, and retro-style lighting create nostalgic vibes. Diner booths and high stools along a breakfast bar complete the fifties look to perfection, while providing a practical environment for guests who want a seat after a long walk around Coombe Abbey Park. And when visitors choose to take away their treats, the packaging—which simply features The Sundae Club logo—provides the perfect advertisement by letting its delicious contents take the limelight!
Described as one of the most ‘insta-worthy’ cafes in Warwickshire by Muddy Stilettoes, The Sundae Club offers a fun experience that’s proving to be popular with patrons old and young!
