Behind the Scenes at Faber : Meet Kally
At Faber, we’re pretty good at sharing the amazing work we do through our Portfolio and Before and After pages. But we thought it was high time we allowed you a peek at our inner workings; a closer look at the team responsible for making the magic happen; who they are, what they do – plus 10 quickfire questions to see what really makes them tick.
Kally is our Senior Designer and has been with Faber for just over a year. She studied interior architecture and design at University of Creative Arts, Farnham, and after graduation went on to work in retail design for a few years. She later tried her hand at freelance, gaining experience in a variety of industry sectors before coming to join us at Faber.
Outside of work, Kally is a burgeoning circus performer. Well, sort of. “I do a circus exercise class with aerial hoops, silks and poles. I’m awful at it and everyone there is a little nuts, but it’s great fun for people who detest exercise.”
If she hadn’t found interior design Kally would probably be a zoo keeper. “I much prefer animals to people,” she says.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Easy-going, conscientious, independent.
What is your greatest achievement?
Backpacking solo in South-East Asia for two months! Would love to do it again, maybe with less dodgy hostels…
What made you want to become an interior designer?
Growing up with DIY property developer parents. Always starting in a derelict house and making it beautiful! I remember when I was young hating it as we moved houses almost 20 times, but now I’d love to do it myself one day.
What is your favourite Faber project?
Kilder – I love it. The stripped-back soft palette is right up my street!
What is your feel-good song?
Snow Patrol, Hands Open.
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I’d explore the Galapagos Islands, famous for its wildlife and beautiful scenery.
How would you describe your perfect weekend?
Waking up on a boiling hot day, straight to Fistral beach with a ‘boogie’ board. Then relaxing with friends and family around a beach bonfire and BBQ with a large glass of sauvignon blanc!
What are you most afraid of?
Alien abduction. I’ve been watching a lot of true life UFO programmes recently and convinced myself it’s real.
Middle-lane drivers on the motorway really grind my gears.
What three items could you not live without?
Friends, family and fudge.
